In the distant past it was used to make cameos and seals. Thanks to its extraordinary beauty, it has become a sought-after collector's and jeweller's stone, from which beautiful jewellery is still made today. For centuries, onyx has been used to make amulets, as it was considered an exceptionally lucky and financially successful stone, which can be seen in the fact that the stone is still used today in commercial interiors such as banks, hotels and restaurants, where prestige, luxury and glamour go hand in hand with high standards. In such places, it can be admired as floor and wall cladding, illuminated décor or counter tops. 

  In interior design, illuminated decors deserve special attention because of their beauty. Solid blocks of onyx are cut into slices of several centimetres in thickness, which are characterised by their light transmission. This turns the patterned, light-permeable stone into a breathtaking work of art. With such decoration, not many design elements are needed. A space decorated with illuminated decor or onyx mosaic is unique, whether in classic, minimalist, luxurious, nature-inspired or eclectic arrangements. 

 Onyx is a primarily decorative stone because of its softness. However, there is no objection to making things from it that are as beautiful as they are functional, such as countertops or countertop washbasins. The key to this is proper impregnation.

Waterproofing onyx

  Onyx requires impregnation and waxing to ensure that it will last for many years. We use different agents for smooth stone and others for rough stone. Thanks to various impregnations, depending on the needs, we can achieve the effect of a deeper colour, wet stone or a silky sheen.

Once the stone has been treated with the right products, you can enjoy the beauty of an onyx washbasin, mosaic or floor covering. To clean onyx, use a cloth and a pH-neutral liquid, let it dry and then polish it dry. It is absolutely inadvisable to use chemical detergents or substances with an acidic reaction. For stains that are difficult to remove, it is advisable to consult a stonemasonry company. For day-to-day maintenance, it is advisable to use wax- and silicone-based preparations, which will refresh the stone, give it a shine and repel deposits and dirt. Onyx is becoming more and more popular every year.
